Getting the Right Images Doesn’t Have To Be Stressful

Getting the right images for your business can be stressful, especially if it’s your first time working with a professional photographer. Over the years, I’ve developed a thorough planning process to help guide you from planning the day of your photoshoot and beyond. Regardless of what type of photos I am taking for you, we’re going to have a plan. Here’s some things to know:

Planning

We’ll start by talking about your baby - your biz. We’ll have a conversation about where you are and where you’re going. I’ll ask about your goals and the big dream.  We share vision and Pinterest boards. From there, we’ll hit on logistics.  We’ll riff on everything from venues and locations to must-have shots… what to wear… mood, vibe… everything!  Using all the information from our jam session, I develop your Shoot Map.

A shoot map is a mix between a shot list and a treasure map! It contains a list of the images planned for the shoot, and ALSO maps out the day in a colorful and exciting way. The photoshoot feels like a little adventure. There’s mood boards, color palettes, prop lists, look-books - it’s seriously so pretty, and My clients LOVE their shoot maps. I always get excited messages after I’ve sent off a shot map.

Your big job starts with that shoot map in those days or weeks leading up to our shoot. Make sure all members taking part in the shoot have their marching orders by sharing the shoot map with everyone. Times and locations should be emphasized with all parties. Encourage styling according to your brand color palettes. I have clients who make a girls day to find what to wear, and I love that!

Through this prep phase, I’m here for ya! This is the phase where I frequently receive texts from clients with dressing-room-selfies, links to online outfits, and “this or that?” photos of dresses laid out on a bed :) I help make the call using my knowledge of the photography side of things. I’m an expert who can help make the tough call on outfits!

After Your Shoot

By the day of the shoot, everyone will be on the same page and moving the same direction. We are prepared and excited! I will lead the way through our photo-shoot, keeping an eye on time, our desired shots, outfits, locations, and of course finding the best poses and most flattering light to make you look amazing. Shoot day is fun! Your work is already done by the time I snap the first photo - so the best thing you can do is enjoy yourself!

After your shoot I’m usually more excited to see your photos than you are! I’ve been known to run straight home, download your photos and immediately start selecting my faves. Sneak peeks and/or behind-the-scenes teasers trickle out onto social media within a couple days of our shoot! Pretty, quirky, candid and professional photos continue to turn up as I work through all your photos, until 2-3 weeks later, when all photos are delivered via online gallery, and available for download according to your package.
